On Friday, Richfield High School graduates will turn back the clock

They’re not exactly getting the band back together, but they’re recreating an era that was important to their formative years.

Graduates of Richfield High School are organizing a get together to coincide with the 70th anniversary of Richfield High School by assembling more than 25 musicians that played in the bands that were popular at local dances of yesteryear for the Richfield All Class Reunion Sock Hop. The social gathering is 5-10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, at the Bloomington Event Center, 1114 American Blvd. W.

Local dances, not always organized by the high school, were a part of their high school years, according to Terry Ahlstrom, 67, of Richfield. Ahlstrom is part of the group that has been planning the reunion for months in recognition of the high school’s anniversary.

Spartan Foundation eclipses $1 million mark in support of students

Spartan Foundation eclipses $1 million mark in support of students
Mike Hanks [email protected] Sep 11, 2024

As far as anniversaries go, 2024 isn’t a particularly notable year for Richfield’s Spartan Foundation.

But the summer of 2024 will be remembered as the year proceeds for the foundation’s programs and scholarships eclipsed $1 million. It will also be remembered as the year one of its founders, Ernie Lindstrom, formally stepped aside from the organization he helped form in 1990. The foundation was created to support youth participation in sports for families who otherwise couldn’t afford the cost of athletic equipment and participation fees. And what better way to fund youth sports than a golf tournament, the founders agreed.

Steve Lindgrin was among the founding members of the foundation, and is its last remaining founding member working on the foundation’s behalf. He credited Lindstrom with helping shape the foundation into what it has become today.

The newly approved Bill Davis Scholarship for RHS seniors seeks donors.

Bill Davis
Dec 2020: The Richfield Spartan Foundation recently added this scholarship to its list (donate here). These began as 2 awards in 1990 and have grown to 25. Over the past 31 years, the Foundation has consistently supported scholarships and funding for arts and athletic programs. Bill Davis served on the board for all 31 years and as its President for the past 13 years. He wishes to award a senior who has shown “exemplary service” within RHS or in the larger community outside the school. RHS seniors can apply through the Counselors’ office. The Board asks for your contribution through its website at spartanfoundation.com and clicking on Donate in the upper right-hand corner. In this effort, we ask for your ‘exemplary community service.’ Sun Current article.
